Valentine's Day Evaluation

Thanks for spending the day looking at Inquiry-based learning. We have one more session together, and I would like to share some Web 2.0 tools with you, such as wiki's, podcasts, blogs etc. Before that, I would like you to do the following:

Leave a comment here that addresses one or more of these evaluation statements/questions.

* Write a headline about today's session.
* List 3 key ideas or points from todays session.
* What could have made this training session better/easier for you?

Today's session reminded me how important inquiry based learning is! I am now going to make more of an effort to avoid too many "cookbook" formated activities. I will also use more open-ended questions and allow for wait time after these questions. I am looking forward to our next session in April as well as for the upcomming Web 2.0 course! Thanks for another good session Martha!

Sorry, I didn't get to finish that last comment. I like the idea of using inquiry learning as much as we can. I think we need to use inquiry learning in science if we want kids to be scientific. We need to give students concrete examples, start slowly, and expect frustration. Most of our kids haven't had science on a regular basis until they get to the junior high. We must be patient.

Headline: Inquiry shifts learning to the student

I found some applets to cover some concepts that I have been looking for for ages! I also found some interesting ideas for planning some inquiry activities, but I didn't find anything I can use as they are. I am motivated to keep looking!

Help!!!!
I need to do a lot more thinking to get my students to think.
Important ideas are: inquiry learning needs to be scaffolded, needs to focus on things that students are at least familiar with and it needs to be student directed.
Thank you for the basic knowledge and impetus to do more.
